  • 2025 General Assembly - Saturday Highlights
  • Highlights from Saturday, July 12

    View as Webpage

The journey to go BEYOND officially began yesterday in Memphis! The General Assembly opened with a vibrant Regional Roll Call, as all 31 regions of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in the United States and Canada offered joyful musical greetings. Rev. Kevin McNeil, Regional Minister for the Christian Church in Tennessee, and Mr. Harold Collins, Chief Administrative Officer of Shelby County Government, welcomed the Assembly with words of encouragement and reflection—grounding us in the spirit and promise of our theme, BEYOND.

After a full and fruitful day of business, the General Assembly came together for an inspiring first night of worship. The worship team, led by C. Anthony Bryant, lifted our spirits and set a powerful tone, reminding us that we are indeed moving forward—BEYOND. Eric Smith offered a thoughtful reflection on our guiding scripture, Ephesians 3:20–21. Rev. Dr. Bernice A. King invited us to focus on a key part of the passage: “Now to the one who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to the power at work within us…” She reminded us that the power of the holy spirit is already in us! In closing, she challenged the Church with a powerful question: Are you ready to let the power work in you?  The evening closed with Pensions Fund's 13th check offering.

    Business at the General Assembly

On the first day of the 2025 General Assembly, Disciples gathered for two business sessions—one in the morning and one in the afternoon. During these sessions, the Assembly received reports from General Ministry units and engaged in discussion on various resolutions. Reports and resolutions are available on the General Assembly website.

Continuing the work initiated with GA-2343, Proposed Changes to The Design, the Assembly adopted: GA-2517, Amendments to The Design, and GA-2518, Changes to the Special Rules of Procedure for the Assembly. These actions mark an important step forward in our ongoing effort to become a more connected and responsive church.

The Assembly adopted the following resolutions:

    • GA 2539 - Ratify Actions of the General Board
    • GA 2512 - Concerning Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) Congregations Receiving a Silver Chalice Designation
    • GA 2514 - Commitment to the Thursdays in Black Campaign: A Global Movement for A World Without Gender-Based Violence
    • GA 2513 - Resolution Concerning Disability Justice and Inclusion in all Ministries within the Christian Church
    • GA 2515 - Opposing Project 2025 And Other Policies That Are Inconsistent with Our Commitment to Justice, Mercy, and Compassion for Our Neighbors
    • GA 2540 - Request-for-Change-of-Region
    • GA 2516 - Proposed Resolution to Commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the DPF Peace Intern Program and 90th Anniversary of the Disciples Peace Fellowship and Inviting Regions and Congregations to Recommit to the Work of Peace and Justice
    • GA 2517 - Amendments to The Design
    • GA 2520 - Calling the Church to Affirm the Sovereignty and Self-Determination of our Canadian Siblings
    • GA 2518 - Changes to the Special Rules of Procedure for the General Assembly
