Whether you plan or lead worship, play an instrument, sing, or preach, you have been given a holy calling. At times that calling may seem a bit mundane—yet another Lent, another rehearsal, another sermon. But your calling is so much more than simply preparing for the next worship service. You are forming faith of those who gather and shaping the way they look at the world. In worship, the songs chosen, the words preached, and the prayers offered can help God's people articulate their laments and praises, give them courage, or lead them to despair. The prayers you offer in worship teach congregants how to pray and what to pray for, and what we don't mention in prayer speaks volumes as well.
As we lead God's people through the Lenten wilderness, may we provide them with the words needed to make sense of this world. May our prayers teach us who our neighbor is and remind us to pray for the flourishing even of those who we may call our enemy. May our preaching always point to Christ and the hope of the resurrection.
