Whether you are just now exploring the call to ministry or have been thinking about it for a long time, deciding to go to seminary will be one of the most important decisions you make in your life! Lexington Theological Seminary has been preparing ministers for a variety of contexts for 160 years. We have been leading the way with innovative programs that respond to today’s leadership challenges for quite some time, so we can help you find the appropriate program for your vocational goals and calling.
Some Regions require a Master of Divinity degree for ordination. Our Master of Divinity is a 76-hour program that is completed mostly online. Even if you are not pursuing ordination, you can still apply to seminary if you want to be in ministry. Our students serve in congregations, as chaplains, leading non-profits, and in numerous ministry settings.
In addition to the MDiv, we have three Master of Theological Studies degrees (40 hours, 100% online):
If you don’t have a bachelor’s degree, we have several Pathways to allow you to receive a graduate degree. We have two non-credit certificates, 100% online: a Certificate in African American Ministry and a Certificate in Hispanic Ministry, that can serve as your bachelor’s equivalence.
We also offer a 100% online, 24-hour graduate-level Certificate in Pastoral Ministry that, upon successful completion, can be transferred into one of our master's degree programs. Furthermore, if you have five or more years of significant ministry experience, you can apply to enter with our Prior Learning Assessment portfolio course to receive admissions and potentially academic credit in electives!
FYI: When we say 100% online, we also mean asynchronous--you log in from your time zone around your busy schedule to complete the course assignments and interact with our professors and students from across the United States.
If you want to try a seminary course, you can also apply as an auditor just to see what it's like! If you are already serving in ministry, you can return to receive Continuing Education.
