    Rev. Dr. M. Eugene Boring, a renowned Disciples New Testament Scholar and Theologian, passed away on Thursday, June 27, 2024. Dr. Boring retired from Brite Divinity School, where he served as the I. Wylie Briscoe Professor of New Testament Emeritus. He earned his Ph.D. from Vanderbilt Divinity School and authored several notable works, including the Revelation Commentary in the Interpretation SeriesDisciples and the Bible, and The People’s New Testament Commentary, co-authored with Fred Craddock, among others.

    When the Presbyterian Church in Canada phoned the Rev. Jennifer Geddes in 2018, they asked if her struggling community of faith, Comox Valley Presbyterian Church in Comox, British Columbia, would be interested in being a part of a Disciples Church Extension Fund New Beginnings pilot project. At the time, she asked herself, “what do we have to lose?” Since then, she has seen her place of worship look forward to, instead of being concerned by, its future.

    The third session of the sixth phase of the International Commission for Dialogue between the Disciples of Christ and the Catholic Church took place in Grand Prairie, Texas, from June 21-25, 2024. This theological dialogue, which began in 1977, is cosponsored by the Catholic Church’s Dicastery for Promoting Christian Unity (DPCU) and the Disciples Ecumenical Consultative Council (DECC). The ultimate goal of the dialogue is full visible unity between Catholics and Disciples of Christ.

    This summer NCC will journey on the NCC Freedom Ride to mobilize voters in five priority states. NCC will also host NCC Freedom Academy, a multi-week, virtual "Sunday School" from July 7 to August 11, unpacking Luke 4 and the intersection of faith and social justice.
