Reformed Worship is a collection of resources available through social media, monthly e-newsletters, a website, and a growing digital library, all based on a quarterly print magazine providing practical help and support to worship planners that is biblically-based with a Reformed accent. To learn more or subscribe go to: ReformedWorship.org

We have now officially entered Lent and Holy Week (Palm Sunday to Easter Sunday) is about five weeks away. This issue of e-newsletter includes worship planning resources for Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, and Easter Sunday. The reading-and-song format can be used for in-person services, or adapted for live or prerecorded online services.

If your congregation follows the Revised Common Lectionary, Reformed Worship has a new resource highlighting resources available for each Sunday's lectionary texts including preaching helps and complete worship services. Please visit tinyurl.com/RWRCLYearBLent.

Remember all subscribers have access to the full Reformed Worship website and those with a digital membership can see the digital version of print issues since June 2016 with full-color artwork and music (tinyurl.com/RWLibrary). Subscribe today to gain access to our library of worship planning resources.

The Three Days: Celebrating the Summit of Holy Week
with Four Services and Two Sacraments

Triduum ("Three Days") begins on Maundy Thursday and proceeds through Good Friday, Holy Saturday with its Easter Vigil service, and then Sunday morning. These series of services highlight the central importance of this time of worship for Christians and celebrate the pivotal events of our salvation.

    Paschal Lamb

This Maundy Thursday service of reading and song looks at the Old and New Testament requirements of the Paschal Lamb. It uses a visual where a wooden door frame is transformed into a cross.

    Alleluia! Christ is Risen

Through readings, carols, and congregational songs, this Easter service with procession brings together many traditional elements of Christian worship in celebration of the resurrection of our Lord.

    • NEW! Lectionary Resources from Reformed Worship Does your congregation make use of the Revised Common Lectionary? Have you wondered if Reformed Worship had resources for you? We certainly do! Check out this chart for Year B resources for Lent.
    • Songs for Lent and Easter Reformed Christians always look at Good Friday through the prism of Easter. This song list provides resources that the love of God, the bloom of which we celebrate at Eastertide, is seen germinating in the Lenten Scriptures.
    • Easter Baptism: An Ancient Tradition The article traces the history of Easter baptism and urges Christians to reexamine and perhaps reform their own baptismal customs.

Rediscovering Worship's Role in Church Life

    By Syd Hielema

Discipleship takes place through dozens of different faith practices. Might the increased isolation due to COVID be calling us to build capacity for significant conversations and quiet times through which we encourage one another and ourselves as we die and rise in Christ together?

    Public Lament and Biblical Lament

    By Joy-Elizabeth Lawrence

Biblical lament is not only asking the questions "why" and "how long," it directly addresses the questions to God. It also often includes references to God's past rescuing, and asks God for help. This is a 2-part blog where Part 1 compares lament in popular culture and in the Bible, and Part 2 consists of examples bridging public lament with biblical lament.

    Pulling Out All the Stops

    By Barbara Newman

Though Barb passed away in 2020 she continues to teach us through her writings and other recordings.

Sound and light in worship services excite our God-created sensory systems. While some worshipers welcome them, they could make others feel uncomfortable. Barb Newman shares some ideas on "sensory friendly" worship environments.
